Clark is actually pretty excited. Which is… probably a surprise to absolutely no one. Clark Kent, Kansas farm boy and dork extraordinaire loving a family cookout? Say it isn’t so. But sue him, they don’t get to spend a lot of time together these days so any situation where they can spend some time around each other for more than 5 minutes counts as a win to him. He’s half expecting a global crisis or something to strike any minute now but he will enjoy it while he can.
So there’s Clark at his parent’s farm, getting a barbeque ready wearing a ‘Kiss the Chef’ apron because of course he would. There’s ground beef hamburger patties, and some veggie patties for himself that he’s getting ready to cook.
Clark Kent is a massive goober, and the fact that he's invested surprises absolutely no one, especially not Kara. She's been worked to the bone these past few weeks between the new position and Supergirl's mounting responsibilities, and she flits in and out of the house. Alex and J'onn are holding the fort for this weekend. She's praying to Rao very desperately for nothing to happen.
This is a weekend for family. It's more than earned.
She tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek as she brings over the icebox.
'You know, it's way faster if we use heat vision.' Teasing, that's not the point of this. 'Where should I put the drinks?'
